SAVE WELLS COLLEGE!

“To think critically, reason wisely,
and act humanely.”
and act humanely.”
We all know this phrase from our time at Wells. That is why the Cleveland Commission for Wells has decided to fight to save our alma mater.
We know these last few years have been very difficult for small liberal arts colleges, and especially for those in rural areas. But the college’s sudden announcement of closure, after months of encouraging news, was still a shock. Something didn’t seem right. And so we began to think critically.
In the last month, we have learned that the story we are being told may not be a true picture of the college’s situation, and that closure may not be the only path forward. We have reasoned wisely, and believe that by invoking the collective passion, creativity, resources, and support of the entire Wells community, we can find the way to help our alma mater not only survive, but thrive.
We are additionally distressed by the tremendous disruption experienced by current students, faculty, and staff, and by the inadequate resources provided to them. We are acting humanely as we fight on behalf of these members of the Wells community who will bear the direct burden of the decision to close. Faculty and staff have provided guidance in our past; current students are a part of our future. We must work now, in this present moment, to help them.
